Dr. Carl Palmblad is a unique kind of dentist and founder of Smile Makers. His gentle approach, combined with the valuable patient education he provides, will ease any concerns you might have. He listens intently to understand your specific needs. He then strives to provide the highest standard of personalized dental care, with three decades of experience and skills training in advanced dental technology.

A Port Jefferson resident since high school, Dr. Palmblad graduated from Stony Brook University with a degree in biochemistry and ultimately went on to receive his post-doctorate degree from New York University College of Dentistry. He spent the following two years as a clinical instructor at the same dental school.

Dr. Palmblad is a Zoom Whitening and Invisalign certified provider and a member of the American Dental Association, the Dental Society of the State of New York, the Suffolk County Dental Society and the American Endodontic Society. He is fluent in English and Spanish and enjoys boating, motorcycling and racquet sports. His daughter, Courtney, is a member of our dental team and is currently pursuing a career in Dental Hygiene. Dr. Palmblad looks forward to bringing out the full beauty of your smile!

Dr. Erika Smit has helped to build a caring, patient-oriented practice here at Smile Makers since 1999. Along with Dr. Palmblad, Dr. Smit strives to create a comfortable environment where patients feel welcome and look forward to their visits.

She graduated from Stony Brook University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. While attending Stony Brook University, she volunteered for the Patchogue Ambulance Company as an EMT. She then worked for New York City Emergency Medical Services in the 911 emergency response.

Dr. Smit attended New York University College of Dentistry and graduated in 1995 with honors in comprehensive patient care (CCAPA) and Prosthetic Dentistry. Dr. Smit then completed her residency at Jamaica Hospital, where she was able to work beside the doctors, nurses and support staff who had become like a second family during her years at NYC EMS. The residency program expanded her experience to include eldercare, pediatric specialties, rehabilitation of facial trauma, and community outreach programs. She is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the New York State Dental Association.

Dr. Smit has since continued her career in eastern Long Island. It was here that she met and married her husband, and stayed to raise their daughter Samantha. They are very proud parents and Samantha has expressed a desire to become a dentist as well.

Dr. John Breuer strives to attend to our patients' concerns while making the appointment an enjoyable one.

He graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, School of Dentistry, and is a long time Port Jefferson resident. He performed additional residency training at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Northport. Dr. Breuer is a member of the Suffolk County and New York State Dental Societies.

John Breuer is a past commodore of his sailing club and is an active member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He routinely teaches safe boating classes, inspects buoys, and flies on patrols for the Coast Guard.
